on a rainy night
silhouetted against the golden streetlamp
silver drops of rain sparkle to the ground
half a moon, obscured by veiling clouds
softly melts in the sky. and everywhere
the night tells of loneliness and harmony
sweetly mingling to find an odd unity
and dealing a strange peace to my soul.
in this drizzling light i see--reflected--images of me
feeling so small against this immensity.
and under the solitary streetlamp
a sight yet more heartwrenching
a man & woman, simply talking
pierces me deeper than this vast dark night
all the moon & sky& rain & light
forgotten--i pause in respect & wonder.
my once dull ache opens again, pressing
deeper, bringing tears, pulling my heart
into pieces once more.
tonight, again, his absence weighs me down
the rain soaking my skin
but the chill reaching my heart
the sky empties its heart onto the dry ground,
nourishing and replenishing as it loses its burden
yet what does my heart empty to fill?
